Product Overview: The Neutrol II by Electro-Matic Products is a magnetic chuck controller that delivers regulated DC power to energize electromagnetic workholding chucks used on surface grinders, milling machines, and other metalworking equipment. It converts three-phase 480 VAC input to 230 VDC pulsating output, available in configurations from 1000 to 3000 watts. The controller features variable power adjustment, full power and release modes, thermal protection, and an optional safety interlock circuit that monitors output current to verify the chuck is energized before allowing machine operation.

Common Failures

The Electro-Matic Neutrol II Magnetic Chuck Controller may experience issues such as blown fuses, defective capacitors, shorted components, and overheating. Units sometimes blow inline fuses upon powering or under load. High ESR in power supply capacitors and shorted SCR modules are among the problems we have observed. Other components such as fans, neon indicators, and power supplies may also fail over time.

Repair Approach

Repairs typically involve replacing defective components such as capacitors, SCR modules, fuses, and other electronic components. Cleaning and ensuring proper airflow in the units are also important, as buildup of contaminants can contribute to overheating. For power-related issues, power supply and relay replacements may be necessary, alongside ensuring all board connections are stable and secure.

Testing & Quality

Repaired units undergo burn-in tests with simulated loads to verify reliability. These tests include verifying power output stability and functionality in variable and full output modes. Units are monitored with test equipment to confirm correct performance, and issues are addressed during the repair process.
