Common Failures
Several units experienced issues related to their capacitors, most frequently the 10uF electrolytic capacitors. The symptoms included drive function failure, joystick malfunction, and boards not sending power correctly. Corrosion and broken tabs were also noted issues in certain instances.
Repair Approach
Repairs often involved replacing defective electrolytic capacitors, which were identified as having high equivalent series resistance (ESR). In various cases, corrosion on the board was cleaned, and preventive maintenance was performed. Some repairs required the application and removal of conformal coating.
Testing & Quality
Repaired units underwent diagnostic testing before and after component replacement. Units generally passed Level 1 and Level 2 testing phases, ensuring that power and status indicators functioned correctly. However, due to the lack of a complete wiring diagram, complete machine-level system testing cannot be performed at CSL. We recommend that customers conduct final system verification once the repaired unit is reinstalled in their equipment.
