Product Overview: The Westinghouse GPA (Gate Pulse Amplifier Module) is a thyristor gate driver used in DC traction motor control systems, commonly found in transit rail vehicles. It accepts low-level pulse inputs and generates six independent high-current gate pulse outputs to trigger thyristors or SCRs in chopper circuits. The module consists of a main PCB with 555-based timing circuits, optocouplers, and output transistors, plus a daughter card providing regulated 10V and 35V power supplies through a switching regulator. Key components include MCT6 optocouplers that drive timing circuits, pulse transformers on outputs T1A, T1B, T2, T3, T5, and T6, and tantalum capacitors for filtering. Inputs and outputs connect via 37-pin D-sub connectors. Common failure modes include degraded optocouplers reducing current transfer ratio below trigger
