Short-Stop Type A

The Short-Stop Type A series is a family of electronic motor brakes, primarily manufactured by AmbiTech with a smaller number of Woods units. These solid-state motor controls provide rapid stopping of AC motors through DC injection braking, injecting DC current into the motor windings after power is removed to create electromagnetic resistance that quickly decelerates the motor.

The series spans a wide range of horsepower ratings, from small 2 HP units up to 700 HP, across single- and three-phase voltage configurations including 110–125V, 208–240V, 460V, and 575V. Model designations follow the SS-_A-xxxx naming convention, with variants differentiated by horsepower, voltage class, and configuration options.

Applications

Short-Stop Type A brakes are commonly used in paper processing equipment and other industrial machinery where controlled, rapid motor stopping is required.
