MP Series Actuator
Overview
The MP Series Actuator family consists of electric and pneumatic rotary actuators used to position dampers, valves, and other control devices in HVAC and industrial process control systems. Primarily manufactured by Barber-Colman, the series also includes units branded under Leeds & Northrup, Invensys, Schneider Electric, and Siebe Environmental, reflecting the line's long history across successor brands.
Product Types
These actuators span a range of torque classes and configurations, including:
- Medium-torque actuators for standard damper and valve control
- High-torque actuators delivering approximately 100 pounds of force for demanding loads
- Proportional and two-position models for modulating or on/off control
- Spring-return and non-standard configurations for specialized applications
Common Features
Typical units feature oil-filled geared construction for lubrication and durability, adjustable limit switches, slidewire potentiometers for position feedback, and auxiliary contacts for remote status indication. Rotation ranges commonly extend to 90, 135, or 180 degrees depending on the model.
Applications
MP Series actuators are found in building automation, HVAC systems, and heavy industrial processes such as paper manufacturing, where reliable positioning of mechanical loads is required.
