Series 500 PLC
The Series 500 PLC is a family of programmable logic controller products originally developed by Texas Instruments and later carried forward by Siemens. Built as a modular rack-based control platform, the series supports industrial automation and process control applications across legacy manufacturing environments.
Products in This Series
The series centers on a wide range of PLC modules and supporting hardware, including:
- Processors and controllers — base controllers, I/O controllers, and remote base controllers
- Input modules — discrete AC/DC input cards, analog input boards, RTD and thermocouple modules, and parallel word input modules
- Output modules — discrete AC/DC output cards, relay output boards, and analog output modules
- Power supplies — rack power supply modules with configurable AC input
- Racks and specialty modules — multi-slot racks, network and communication interfaces, and dedicated function modules
Function and Applications
Modules install into multi-slot racks that provide mounting, power distribution, and processor-to-I/O connectivity. Input and output cards interface field devices such as sensors, switches, solenoids, valves, and indicators, while analog and temperature modules support process measurement and control. These systems are commonly found in industrial automation and process control equipment, including paper manufacturing and other legacy production environments.
