Pipe and Cable Locater
The Pipe and Cable Locater series from Nilsson Electrical comprises test equipment used to trace underground utilities, buried metallic pipes, and cables. These systems help field technicians map subsurface infrastructure prior to excavation or repair work by generating and detecting electromagnetic signals along a buried line's path.
The series is centered on the Model 715 locator system, which pairs a signal transmitter with a handheld receiver wand and antenna. Audio feedback for pinpointing utilities is provided through a compatible monaural headphone with a 1/4-inch plug connection.
Products in this Series
- Transmitters — generate adjustable-frequency signals applied to buried pipes and cables.
- Receivers and antennas/wands — handheld units that detect the transmitted signal to identify position and depth.
- Headphones — deliver audio signals from the receiver to the operator.
- Current Interrupter (Model 820) — produces an interrupted current signal for tracing, operating on 12V battery power.
- Soil Resistance Meter (Model 400) — measures ground resistance across multiple ranges for electrical systems and buried infrastructure.
Common applications include locating water lines, gas pipes, electrical conduit, and telecommunications cables, as well as ground resistance testing.
